CFAA Association Conference Topics
At our 2008 Association Conference, CFAA delegates benefited from discussions of
  • Approaches to education for landlords - click here
  • Landlords’ image problems and solutions - click here
  • Issues facing landlords across Canada.
Delegates agreed that the information gained will be useful to their associations, and came away feeling stronger for knowing that many others face the very same issues that each of our associations faces. For New Brunswick delegates the conference was an eye-opener about CFAA. For example, Gerry Webster wrote, “The main thing that I got from the conference was the number of units CFAA represents across Canada and the power that we could be exercising. … Very impressed with what I have seen so far.”

CFAA Goals for 2008-09
At this year’s meeting, the CFAA Board discussed our goals for 2008-09. As its two key goals CFAA will continue to seek:
  • Improved federal housing policies, and
  • Tax deferral on reinvestment in rental real estate.
In addition, CFAA will take steps to promote
  • Workable federal subsidies for energy conservation
  • Better tenant credit reporting for inter-provincial moves
  • Practical education for landlords
CFAA will take those steps primarily through member volunteers who are knowledgeable in each area, including allied members for energy and credit reporting, and member associations for education.

CFAA will also continue to act as a conduit for information exchange among our member association to help associations to address
  • Provincial and municipal housing policy issues (e.g. new subsidies for “affordable housing” construction along with inadequate income support for low-income renters)
  • Provincial and municipal property tax and assessment issues
  • Other provincial and municipal issues.
